Understanding Engraving Costs: A Detailed Guide

Transparent pricing is the foundation of every successful project. We explain exactly which factors influence the cost of your laser engraving so you can plan your budget optimally.

Pricing Guide Reading time: 5 minutes

Anyone commissioning a high-quality laser engraving wants to know the expected costs beforehand. Pricing at Barmiestqira in Linz follows a logical structure based on material consumption, machine time, and manual effort. There is no single flat rate, as every project presents individual requirements.

1. The Role of the Engraving Area

The primary cost factor is the area actually processed by the laser. We calculate this per square centimeter (cm²). The more complex the motif and the larger the area, the longer the laser head must remain on the material.

For example, a small logo engraving on a pen differs fundamentally from a large-scale texturing of a wooden board. Since our maximum working area is 900 x 600 mm, we can process both minute details and large-format pieces with precision, with costs increasing linearly with the area.

2. Material-Dependent Price Differences

Not every material reacts the same way to the laser beam. We utilize both CO₂ and Fiber laser technology to achieve optimal results. The choice of technology influences the price:

  • Wood and Leather: These organic materials can be engraved efficiently. The cost is 1.20 € incl. VAT per cm².
  • Metal and Glass: These materials often require higher intensity or specific Fiber laser settings, which increases the price to 2.50 € incl. VAT per cm².

3. Setup and Layout Costs

Before the laser starts, the file must be perfectly prepared. An often underestimated cost item is vectorization. If a print-ready format is not provided, our graphic designer must prepare the file manually.

Layout preparation is charged at 65 € incl. VAT per hour. To minimize these costs, we recommend reading our guide on preparing files for laser. A correctly delivered SVG or DXF file saves both time and money.

4. Minimum Order Value and Project Volume

To operate our workshop in Linz economically, we have established a minimum order value of 25 €. This ensures that even the smallest individual pieces are processed with the same care as large series orders.

For larger quantities, you benefit from more efficient setup times. While the first part in a series requires the full setup time, the relative cost per piece drops significantly as the quantity increases.

5. Time Factors and Express Options

Our average lead time is 5-7 days. This period allows for thorough quality control. If you need your project more urgently, we offer express processing.

For rush orders, a surcharge of 30% is applied to the total price. This covers the necessary rescheduling of our production sequence and the additional personnel effort.

Summary of Cost Factors (Example Calculation)
Factor Influence Example Price (incl. VAT)
Area (Wood) Per cm² 1.20 €
Area (Metal) Per cm² 2.50 €
Layout Per hour 65.00 €
Minimum Order One-time 25.00 €

6. Local Specifics in Linz and Upper Austria

As a company located in the center of Linz, we value regional proximity. Customers from the city can bring their materials directly to Landstraße 142, which saves on shipping costs. We are familiar with the requirements of local craft businesses and designers in Upper Austria and therefore offer tailored B2B conditions.

For our business customers, a payment term of 14 days after invoicing applies, enabling flexible liquidity planning for local partners.

  • File: Is a vector format (SVG, AI, PDF) available, or is layout preparation necessary?
  • Quantity: Is this a single piece or a series?
  • Deadline: Is the standard lead time of 5-7 days sufficient, or is express service required?
