Professional Layout Preparation for Precision Laser Work
The quality of a laser-cut product does not begin at the machine, but on the screen. We transform your ideas, sketches, and raster images into technically flawless vector data, ensuring error-free production in our Linz workshop.
Many clients underestimate the critical difference between a standard image and a production-ready vector file. While a JPG or PNG consists of millions of tiny colored pixels, a vector graphic defines shapes through mathematical paths. For our CO₂ and Fiber lasers, this information is essential: the laser must know exactly where a line begins, where it leads, and whether it is defined as a cutting line or an engraving path.
Our layout preparation service bridges the gap between your creative vision and technical execution. Whether it is the digitalization of a hand-drawn sketch, the optimization of a corporate logo, or the creation of complex technical drawings, we ensure the file is perfectly aligned with our 900 x 600 mm working area and contains no redundant double lines or open paths that could disrupt the production process.
Who needs this layout service?
Our layout service is designed for a wide range of clients who may not possess specialized graphic software or the time required for technical file preparation:
- Small Businesses and Start-ups: If you have a logo available only in low resolution, we convert it into a scalable format suitable for office signage or product engraving.
- Designers and Architects: We support you in the technical verification of your drafts to ensure that chosen material thicknesses (e.g., 3mm acrylic) are compatible with planned radii and line widths.
- Private Individuals: If you have a personal idea for a gift but only a rough drawing on paper, we digitalize it for implementation as a personalized item.
- Event Organizers: When creating individual decorative elements or name tags, we help optimize the data for large production batches.
The File Preparation Process
Analysis & Consultation
We review your existing data (PDF, JPG, PNG, or sketch) and clarify the requirements: should the material be cut, engraved, or a combination of both?
Manual Vectorization
Our graphic designer traces the paths precisely. We do not rely on automated tools, as these often create jagged edges; instead, we work manually for maximum sharpness.
Technical Optimization
We remove redundant lines, close open paths, and assign the correct functions (cut vs. engrave) according to our specific machine configurations.
Final Approval
You receive a digital draft for review. The file only enters production after your explicit confirmation.
What exactly is included in the Layout Service?
We provide comprehensive technical support so you do not have to deal with complex software settings. The following services are part of our package:
- Conversion of raster graphics (pixels) into vector graphics (paths).
- Adjustment of dimensions to the real size of the final product.
- Creation of bridges for cutout letters (to prevent the center of 'O' or 'A' from falling out).
- Optimization of line paths to reduce laser run-time and material wear.
- Verification of minimum widths for engravings to prevent over-burning the material.
- Arrangement of collective sheets (Nesting) to minimize material waste.
- Provision of the file in .DXF or .SVG format upon completion of payment.
What you should prepare for the process
To keep processing time short and costs minimal, we ask you to provide the following information:
Ideally, send us a file in a high-quality format. If you only have a sketch, ensure it is well-lit and photographed flat. It is also crucial to provide exact desired dimensions (width x height in mm) and specify the material, as the laser cut width varies slightly depending on the material (e.g., plywood vs. acrylic).
If you already have ideas regarding the placement on a specific object, a simple description or an attached reference photograph is helpful. The more precise the specifications, the fewer correction loops are necessary.
The Result: What you receive
After completing the layout preparation, you will receive a digital PDF document for final review. This document serves as the legal basis for production. Once payment is made, we provide the final vector data set. This file is optimized so that it can be processed not only in our Linz workshop but on any standard-compliant CO₂ or Fiber laser worldwide.
Additionally, you receive confirmation of the technical parameters we have selected for your project, ensuring that you can expect the exact same result for future re-orders.
Timeline and Lead Times
The creation of a simple layout (e.g., basic logo vectorization) is generally completed within 1 to 2 business days. For more complex technical drawings or extensive corrections, the duration may vary. Generally, the average lead time for the entire project, including production, is 5-7 days. Should you require urgent implementation, we offer an express option with a 30% surcharge.
What is NOT included in the Layout Service
Please note that we provide technical implementation and not comprehensive artistic brand development. The following points are not part of layout preparation:
- Complete reinvention of a logo or corporate identity.
- Searching for suitable fonts if no specifications are provided.
- Processing files that violate our guidelines (e.g., protected trademarks without permission).
- Creation of 3D models (we work exclusively in 2D for laser cutting).
Pricing and VAT
We bill our layout services transparently on an hourly basis. This allows us to charge for small adjustments fairly without requiring you to purchase an expensive flat-rate package. Prices are displayed in accordance with Austrian legal requirements.
| Service | Price (net) | Price (incl. 20% VAT) | Unit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vectorization & Layout Preparation | 54.17 € | 65.00 € | per hour |
Billing is based on actual time spent. For minor adjustments, a minimum order value of 25.00 € applies. Detailed conditions regarding payment and cancellations can be found in our Terms.
Note: Layout preparation is a necessary prerequisite for production. Without a technically verified file, we cannot assume liability for the final result.

Frequently Asked Questions about Layouts
Can I send my file as a PDF?
Yes, PDFs are very welcome, provided they contain vector data. However, if the PDF only contains an embedded image (raster graphic), manual vectorization by our service is required.
Why is a high-resolution JPG not enough?
A JPG consists of pixels. The laser cannot recognize clear lines within it, only color values. To achieve a clean cut edge, the path must be defined as a mathematical line (vector).
Do I receive the file after payment?
Yes, after full payment for the layout hours, we provide the final file in a common format such as .SVG or .DXF.
How is the time for layout preparation calculated?
We log the time our graphic designer spends processing your file. Simple corrections often take 15-30 minutes, while complex logos can take several hours.
